Sunbaked in Earthen Pots
A rose petal preserve, sunbaked for over a month in earthen pots, as per the Ayurvedic ancient texts. The roses are of the ‘Chaitri’ variety, that grow only during the Chaitra month (as per the Hindu Calendar) of the year; and sourced directly from Haldi Ghati – a mountain pass in the Aravali range, Rajasthan.
Sun-cooking ensures that the flavors develop and get concentrated gradually over time. It also helps preserve the natural therapeutic properties of the rose petals since these petals are extremely sensitive to heat.
Kappad Mitti Lep as per Naturopathy
Desi Gulab petals, Mishri and Raw honey, some spices to bring it all together inside earthen pots sealed with finely sieved soil paste – a process in Naturopathy of using the the earth/soil to ensure sun-baking happens evenly. To push this even further our pots were kept inside pits dug into the ground! So much has gone into making this – years of trial and testing to hit the perfect recipe! In a month’s time the rose petals get transformed to a deep reddish black mushy mix. (Check our process video for detailed info on the making of our Gulkand.)
